50th Annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Parade Grand Marshal
Kevin Strommer
- Kevin was born in 1963 in Goshen Hospital, the son of Gerard and Ann Strommer of Bronx, NY. His lineage stretches from Sligo/Mayo/ Counties on his mother’s side and to Down/Sligo Counties on his father’s side. Kevin attended the Washingtonville Central School District. He excelled in academics and football in high school, which took him to Iona College to pursue his passions upon graduation. This experience made Kevin aware of his desire for camaraderie and brotherhood motivating Kevin to enlist in the US Navy Submarine Service. There he received various awards, medals and recognition as well as a combat status due to the bombing and subsequent loss of life of United States Marines in Grenada. This was the beginning of a life of service to his Country, his State and his Church. Upon honorable discharge from the USN, Kevin joined the ranks of the New York State Police. Kevin subsequently accepted medical retirement from the NYSP after suffering from a TBI. Soon thereafter, Kevin volunteered for the Knights of Columbus (K of C) Council 5890 in Washingtonville, NY where he had risen to the rank of Grand Knight. During his tenure as Grand Knight, his council sponsored over 37 disabled children and a caretaker on a life changing pilgrimage to Lourdes, France. This sponsorship enabled the children along with their caretaker the ability to focus on our Holy Mother’s healing grace and on the miracles that have been achieved in the baths of Lourdes, and not to be concerned by housing, meals, and the everyday costs borne of such a pilgrimage. Kevin also began his engagement with Intellectually disabled children by soliciting sponsorships from friends and local companies to have him participate in the “Polar Plunge” which helped fund the Special Olympics. Kevin served in the capacity of Grand Knight for five years, the longest in the council’s storied history. His leadership ability led him on a path within the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) in Monroe, NY, where he is the Past President and current Chairman of the Catholic Action program of the Joseph Duelk Jr. Division 1 in Orange County, NY. Additionally, Kevin is the Orange County AOH President, a member and Past Grand Knight of the Washingtonville K of C 5890, and the Past President of the Mid-Hudson St Patrick’s Parade Committee. He is also a member of both the Catholic War Veteran’s Post 386 in New Windsor, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1161. He is a Eucharistic minister and an usher at St Mary’s RC Church in Washingtonville, NY. Kevin is married to Maryanne Lucey Strommer, a first-generation Irish American from county Cork and Clare/Galway. She is a teacher and a tutor. Kevin is the father of Davan Strommer, and Stepfather to Sebastian Buccelato. Kevin and Maryanne have two children, Gerard-14, and Katharineann-13, at home along with their paternal grandmother, Ann Strommer.
